Stone's Criminal Organization

It is no surprise to anyone who lives in the 50th Ward that Ald. Stone's Ward Super has engaged in criminal activity. Nor can it surprise many that members of his criminal organization used their power and influence for their own selfish purposes.

Anish Eapen, the Ward Super, was the person who refused to fix cracked sidewalks or potholes, or pick up the trash that lines Devon Ave. (and others), and many other items that desperately need attending in the neighborhood.

But he had time to illegally intimidate voters and cast their ballots for them.

It's been mentioned before that Stone is a protege of Fred Roti, former Ald. of the old Mobbed-up 1st Ward. Stone was one of only two witnesses called in the corruption and murder trial of Roti, a "made" - or inducted - member of the Chicago Mob (in a federal lawsuit unsealed right before Roti died). Despite Stone's testimony that Roti was a good man, incapable of the things he was accused of, he was convicted of corruption after being caught on videotape in his City Hall office accepting a $4,000 bribe to rig a zoning matter and fix a civil court case. Stone was a frequent dinner companion of Roti and 1st Ward Secretary Patrick Marcy -- also a "made" member of Mob (according to FBI testimony to Congress) at the Counsellor's Row Restaurant.

The judge in the case noted that Roti had undermined the "very nature of the democratic process" when he sentenced the mobster to 4 years in jail with a substantial fine.

Fred Roti is the father of one the employees on Ald. Stone's payroll.

Stone remains free of indictment largely because a city ordinance prohibited Chicago Inspector General David Hoffman from investigating aldermen. This ordinance grew out of the fact that so many alderman had been convicted of corruption -- so the city council made it more difficult to get caught.

nice post, thanks

"... after being caught on videotape in his [Roti's] City Hall office ... "

a minor point - I believe the incriminating video of Roti & his entourage was taken of them in their booth at Counselor's Row across the street from City Hall

somewhere in the FBI archives are hundreds of hours of Roti & Stone & pals lunching & chatting

Jay,

When is the last time you have done any productive? I stop by your blog every so often and all I see is you complaining about everything Stone does. You now accuse him of running a criminal organization.

A person who volunteers for his political group is charged. He may or may not be guilty but that is not the point. The person is employed by the City of Chicago not the Alderman. That is also not the point. On April 27, 2007 a supporter of Naisy Dolar was electioneering at 6833 N. Kedzie all day less that 100 feet from the polling place but again that is not the point.

The point of this post is to again ask when is the last time you did anything productive. You blog and blog and blog and blog, insult people, accuse people of things but never a positive thought or idea. You have serious obsession with Bernard Stone which you should seek help with. Again what do you do which is productive.

Do you ever register anyone to vote( are you a deputy register), every get a disabled voter an absentee ballot application so they can vote, do you ever drive an elderly person to the poling place so they can vote? No my guess is that you just sit at you computer and blog, blog, blog.

Anon12:33,

You are thinking of the hundreds, maybe even thousands, of hours of audio tape the feds got from the restaurant. I'm referring to a videotape recorded in Roti's city hall office that was (also) used in his trial.

Anon12:53,

The alderman couldn't be charged from an investigation out of the IG's office. As you may (or may not) be aware, if Stone is a target of a federal investigation into vote tampering, that won't be made public until after the Anish's of his organization are convicted and turn state's evidence. Which we can presume will happen.

But we can extract ourselves from this madness by electing a new Democratic committeeman, one who doesn't have ties, however tenuous, to the Chicago Mob. It's a start, but it's a good start. Highly recommended.

You people don't know what you're talking about. Our skyline should say "Roti" on it. If not for Fred Roti, half the buildings in the Loop would never have been built.

Here's an interesting question to ponder:

Dolar's grounds for a civil follow-up action

Last fall, Stone's hynotherapist son Jay applied for a piece of the Shakman settlement, claiming his civil rights were violated when the Machine deprived him of access to the job of Alderman of the 32nd Ward. At first Abba Stone told the Reader he had no opinion on the issue, but more recently on his cable show Atty Stone said he thought his son had a good case.

So I wonder if Stone now thinks Dolar might have a case against Eapen and Stone's political machine?

just wondering...

Clobbered by Clout?

Defeated aldermanic candidate Jay Stone puts a new twist on the Shakman decree.

Investigators should investigate this issue. Anish misused his position to grow his father's business, get permits for buildings and numerous other illegal acts.
