Back to the Stone Age!

Mike Noonan pulls it out:

Alderman 50th Ward 45 of 45 precincts 100.00%
Bernard L. Stone 5,965 52.93%
Naisy Dolar 5,304 47.07%
Total 11,269

Consider this an open thread about the election. Try to keep it positive.

Stone was on Fox News Chicago this morning and was talking about more $$ was spent in this race than his previous nine races. He said that it's ridiculous.

He went on to assure more construction projects and the parking garage @ Devon/Rockwell.

Jay,

Now you are in trouble my friend!
FEDs think that you are involved in the graffiti last month in Stone's office.
Good Luck
Justin

Justin: Rest assured that I am more than willing to talk to the "FEDS" about any of Stone's ruses! If it hadn't occurred to them that Stone or his cronies were behind this kind of stuff, it will after I'm done with them.

But I'll be happy to keep everyone updated if and when Stone's attempts to deflect responsibility away from himself result in any substantial charges. Anything that keeps these acts in the public's mind is a good thing.

Bow down to the Daley machine.
Stone had very little to do with his re-election. Noonan & his crew were able to effectively target new voters for Berny to offset the Dolar advances. The younger Jewish voters, the Indian & Pakistanies who were scared into voting & the usual Winston Tower folks...
Too bad for our neighborhood...

This ward needs to be split in half (at California perhaps?), especially considering Stone will now ignore even further the areas like Indian Boundary Park, the Ridge area, Emerson Park & other anti-Stone pockets. It will be interesting to see who gets their just rewards for loyalty. I guess I am now on the do-not respond to list Stone has surely made...

I voted for Stone and developed a real distaste for SEIU during this election, but I have to give credit where credit is due. The Dolar supporters were really out there yesterday. It was very exciting to see such grassroots democracy in action.

And I liked Dolar a whole lot better in defeat. One of the most wonderful attributes of Asian culture is respect for elders. I think many people were turned off my the nastiness regarding Stone's age--and it really got him going. I wonder what would have happened in Dolar had waged a more positive campaign?

At any rate, I congratulate everyone on participating in the political process.

It's unfortunate that the ward is back to the Stone Age. If you all kept up with the Dolar Election Day blog, you would see some of his nasty tricks at play. Now, more than ever, the residents need to come together to put Stone to task!

My predictions were no better than most and in the end the race was closer than expected. However, I was right about a basic political fact: it was all about turnout. Dolar's team got organized and did an excellent job getting out the opposition vote. While I expected to see a significant drop, yesterday's opposition vote was only about 100 short of the February total. But Stone (or the mayor) pulled out all the stops and increased his vote significantly, making all the difference between winning and losing. In the process, conventional wisdom about the role of the Jewish vote in the 50th Ward was proved true. There's a good reason Stone's GOTV call/walk sheets have columns for "Jewish" and "Age". That's about all they need to know.

Stone can celebrate today, but be will not be very happy when he realizes that 53% is the absolute best he can do in a competitive race and that his opposition is not going away.

Well,Well,Sour Grapes on the Morris/Concaildi site. Tough s___to all the STONE-BASHERS and lets add MAB and GRACE V. to today's special greeting list. The most shocking part of this past several months is not the carpetbaggers,or even Dolar's Racial Campaign, but the realization that there are some truly HORRIBLE people living among us ,that everyday tried to outdo each other in their smearing of Stone. These SELF-APPOINTED "community saviors" are FULL of ___!

I found it interesting that Ald. Stone reserved his most bitter post-election comments for Cong. Schakowsky.

Can her betrayal of the machine cost her down the road?

I asked a Niles Twp. political operative why he thought she chose to get involved in this race and he said she seems to be betting that she has a better future with the brown and yellow ethnics than with her old Jewish base.

The Jewish vote is shrinking not only in the city but also in suburban parts of the 9th Cong. Dist.

Schakowsky won by a pretty meager margin in her first race, when the machine was angry at her defeat of Sen. Howard Carroll in the primary and she was faced with a young dynamic Evanston GOP challenger.

Since then she has been able to coast against only token Republican opposition, but conservative Park Ridge was added to her district.

With demographic turmoil in the Democrat ranks, the ire of the machine Democrats and a well funded young Assyrian candidate from Niles gearing up to give her more than token opposition, old Jan could find herself busier than she had hoped next election cycle.

At the very least, this ties up Democrat resources that otherwise would have gone to challenging Mark Kirk and propping up Melissa Bean.

Has Jan miscalculated?

my thoughts exactly 12:13 although I though ward50mom is the most self righteous of the bunch.

Interesting--I had the thought this morning that people would be calling for redrawing the ward boundaries or seceeding from the ward--and someone, in fact, did!

9:58--I'd like to hear about the new voters--sounds sort of interesting. Do you have anything to back it up?

CAPSMAN: you do not understand libel law. Threatening to bring a libel suit against anyone who posts here is an idle threat.

You do not understand YouTube. The point of the world wide web is linkage. You cannot prohibit someone from linking what is on the web just because you don't like them (or what they say). If Avy doesn't want people linking to his site, then he needs to pull it down. But idle threats (like this one) will no longer be posted. We understand. You hate your neighbors. No need to repeat yourself.

It is sad to see Stone re-elected but even more tragic to see him and his hardcore supporters gloating. Ray Colom, after winning a hard run-off in his ward, offered to reach out to his entire community. Stone went on last night on how Dolar was unqualified to be alderman. Let us not forget that he only won by 600 votes and that 47% of the ward voted against his candidacy. This is something to build on for the future and I do wish "Mr. Hardcore Stone Lover" would learn to spell and use proper grammar. He comes across as a great illiterate. In the meantime I pray that Bernard Stone will reach out to the entire ward and try to make amends for his generally nasty and arrogant behavior!

Jay you dont understand what Hugh post do to people. Well Hugh is about to find out the price of freedom of the press. There is a responsibility that comes which each post and a bully factor.

As I have said in the past here Hugh can dish it out but cant take it. Hugh is not the only one who can due research, however you can do more with that research than just post it on the internet.

As for the Election Viva Stone and Viva 5oth Ward.

Deb H ("anon 3:16"), it's clearly you who has been posting many comments on this web site that bash individual members of the Yahoo group and the group at large. Your attempts to use different styles (lower case etc.) do not fool anyone. Your comments are easy to track by comparing them to what you posted on the Yahoo group, i.e., there are many similar themes.
