Will Dolar Show?

All the talk has been around Ald. Stone's debate and whether Naisy Dolar would show up. Let's be perfectly honest here, the April 12 debate is a forum created entirely by Berny Stone and his cronies, and no hint of impartiality exists. But it is also the only side-by-side debate the 50th will get.

Dolar's camp responded to Stone's invitation with a number of conditions that are unlikely to be met. Stone's debate invitation seems to be a take-it-or-leave-it invitation, and they probably have a mailing ready to go saying that Dolar is scared to debate the alderman. This is obviously absurd, but this debate is not up on Dolar's calendar.

Who needs it more? Actually, the people of the 50th Ward do. Another community organization made this little debacle possible by being so heavy-handed in their candidate's forum. If Dolar's crowd is allowed to do this, one would expect Stone's crowd to be able to, as well. It's the neighborhood that is ill-served. No one expects Stone to serve the neighborhood better, but Naisy Dolar has staked her campaign on "expecting more."

Everybody knows that Stone's debate is a trap. His precinct captains have spent weeks coming up with zingers and pointed questions. So while it may appear smart that Dolar passes on Stone's debate, doing so shows that she's running on an empty message.

She set the trap for herself in that regard.

Advantage: Ald. Stone

UPDATE: The Dolar campaign confirms that they will not participate in the Stone debate.

I knew Stone would not debate, but I never thought he'd be clever enough to set up Dolar as the one to back out. After lying for months about his willingness to debate, Stone will now be able to say Naisy was the one who wouldn't show up because she was afraid to face him.

He may be right. It's easy to show up to a room full of supporters with a picture of your opponent. What's tough, what would show confidence and ability, is showing up when the deck is stacked against you, showing up knowing there will be tough questions and accusations, showing up prepared and ready to fight.

Naisy needs to face Stone no matter what the circumstances. She's been willing to stage mock confrontations at the Devon and Rockwell groundbreaking and the mayor's fundraiser at the Croation center. Now she needs to show up for the real event. If Naisy expects voters to promote her from student council to city council, she needs to get in the game for real.

Looks like the shoe is on the other foot. Now it time for Naisy >>It's easy to show up to a room full of supporters with a picture of your opponent as Naisy has done before. This is the real deal. No time to prepare for questions. Answer them as they come, can dolar do that, or is that too much thinking. Will she show? YES again she had the deck dealt to her at Boone with her little picture of Stone and her room full of supporters and prepared questions. Lets see how she does if she shows???

Stone had the opportunity to appear on WTTW Chicago Tonight which I think was an impartial forum.
Why didn't he show up then?
Granted maybe the other debate was a little one sided, but Chicago Tonight?

JAY-ITS NOT A TRAP-ITS A LEVEL PLAYING FIELD. THE PHONY WRPCO DEBATES WERE THE TRAP ,BEING HELD AND PUSHED BY THE PRO-DOLAR WRPCO(WHO TRY TO PASS THEMSELVES OFF AS A LEGIT COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION). THREE COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS,ALL LEGITIMATE AND LONG-STANDING FIXTURESOF OUR COMMUNITY,ARE CO-HOSTING AND THE STILL UNCERTAINTY OF DOLAR'S PARTICIPATION PROVES HOW AFRAID OF A FAIR DEBATE HER AND HER CAMPAIGN TRULY ARE!

I agree that Naisy really needs to go to this debate. She should pack the place with her supporters and just get on with it.

A little One sided would be an under statement. As far as Chicago Tonight I cant answer for Stone,But I know it was 1st day of Passover. Phil Ponse did a great Job. He made Naisy look dumb with a few of her answers. Why do you say Devon is doing so bad, look how crowded it is, and the Crime Ponce said is down , and Naisy replied something that people dont call the police. Please...

To 12:20 post,

Could you put up something encouraging/positive with regards to Stone and why people should vote for him? That would not be one sided, then.

New YouTube: Stone: Soft on Corruption

The number one most important reason not to re-elect Bernard L. Stone is his ongoing role as an enabler of corruption in City Hall. Through his willful negligence of his oversight role, Stone is an un-indicted co-conspirator in each and every City Hall scandal.

My SO, a card-carrying political sociologist (NPR interviewed him for a feature several weeks ago), doesn't believe in debates b/c, unless someone really screws up (which is unusual) or truly shines (which is more unlikely), they do not affect election outcomes. Even if he thought debates made a difference, he thinks that this one for the 50th Ward is scheduled too close before voting day to change peoples' minds and that being the case, since the polls now favor Dolar, she can afford to skip a debate rigged in her opponent's favor.

Despite what my SO believes, as someone rooting for Dolar I'd like to see her and her supporters at this week's debate. She needs to confront the Stone campaign's chicanery and thug-like behavior and show us that she can't be intimidated and she can stand her ground before a hostile crowd and look good doing so. What Stone threw at her isn't fair and, imho, is a sign of his desperation. But for once I agree with Jay: it won't look good if Dolar doesn't deal with it.

Thillins, property tax cap, experience leadership no development on land accross from Winston Towers, Rogers School Campus, Funding for a new school at Whipple and Northshore, supported but not owned by unions, new parking lot by Devon, supported by the Mayor. Senator Silverstein, supported by 3 Cook County Commissioners, Lou Lang, Terry O'Brien, raised funds locallyn ot from outside the area like her opponent, new streets , sidewalks in the ward, New Housing, New senior housing, wont back away from a debate, Hugh Devlin does not like him, Available two night a week for residents, respected in the city council, sewer and refuge rebates for condo buildings, passport and city vehicle sticker service at his office, support for local causes ie special olympics, I could also copy and past from hiswebsite but I hink this is enough. However is still does not even out the one sidedness on this blog or the Yahoo group.

To: 3:27 anonymous,

Now that you have a long listing of names and places, pick two or three and actually describe in detail (the details are important) what Stone did to positively influence this development or gain support of this individual.

Willow9 You are like goldie locks and three bears firs its to short now its to long I want it just right.

Here is one why is the West Roges Park Organization Debate any more legitimate but the one for April 12 is not? I know because all of Naisy supporters on this blog say so but the few Stone supports opinions are not correct.

What details does Naisy have on any thing...none because she has no track record. I will address your other question later once I have more time.

However one week from now and about 5 hours when Stone is re-elected we will see who is right.

I look forward to your answer to how Stone is responsible for "no development on land across from Winston Towers". Couldn't you just briefly throw something out there, any fact at all? You pick the topic.

Election results can only tell us who won, not who's right.

(Yeah, I know, it sounds like something from a fortune cookie.)

In response to someone's question on the date of the WTTW debate, which would have definitely been fair and impartial, Stone was offered the choice of a different date but he refused it.

Naisy did show up -- I think she did very well as do several other people I know who were unfamiliar with the campaign until recently.

The Stoners here will have you believe otherwise, but she was great, and showed the energy and smarts she will bring as alderman.

Boy gets shot in a school today. I bet its the Alderman’s fault, even if it’s not his ward. Wow there are even cameras and metal detectors on site and still got the gun in school. All the safety you can ask for and still things happen. Goes to show Dolar wont be changing the world.

I think it's interesting that Dolar touts the fact that she is a community member of the Decatur LSC. Last I heard, that was not a neighborhood school . . . it requires high testing with some discretion from the principal to get in. Is it a coincidence that she has children that will be going to school in a few years?

If Dolar was so concerned about NEIGHBORHOOD schools, I suspect she could have run for the community rep position at Boone or Rogers.

I was trying to help, by guiding you towards the path you could take to begin a fair and balanced discussion of Alderman Stone's accomplishments. I'll be completely honest with you, I don't think you can answer the question.

I was under the impression that YOU wanted to state some accomplishments or give credit to Alderman Stone for something on that list of yours. I have my facts but I would like to hear yours.....are you researching?

Dolar is a JOKE
This was her Debate..
WRPCO has insisted on a pre-set list of written questions given to
the candidates a week before the forum that represent the views that
the WRPCO group wants.
TIME to study for Naisy!!!

Thats the only way Naisy can debate, to be prepared. Who is the coward here??

The time has come for an alderman who knows what fairness and respect means. We expect and deserve more from our elected officials. Thats not Dolar

About 15 years ago a car dealership ( which I believe isnow located at the Lincolnwood Town Center wanted to put a dealership on the West side of Kedzie between Touhy and Pratt. The land is owned by the Water Reclamation District. It is in Lincolnwood.

Terry O'Brien who was on the Water Reclamation District Board(and still is) and Alderman Stone kept the developers off. It was those same two who saved Thillins in 2005 that got that land under the Chicago Park District as well. Thats the long and short of it.
