Reputation? What "Good Reputation?"
One hears that Ald. Stone contends that there's 'No Doubt About My Good Reputation.'
My wife giggled at that. Which just about says it all.
This is the ward where some residents are embarrassed to admit who their alderman is, even though they love the neighborhood. So Berny is partially right -- there is no doubt about his reputation. It's just not good.
This was true even before one of his hired thugs got indicted. Before the press was called in by a priest at one precinct and the Board of Elections was called in to another. Before all the vacuous rumors Stone and his thugs started about opponents, before he promised to "take out" Lou Lang, Ira Silverstein and Jan Schakowsky. Long before, to be accurate.
It's not just that Berny Stone has gotten old. It's more like all the things he's said and done have come back to haunt him. Remember when Berny was challenged about all the rumors of corruption around him? What did he say? "Call the police."
Well, somebody did. In fact, it sounds like more than one somebody did. Berny Stone standing up at City Hall proclaiming that he still has his good name is just like President Clinton standing up at the White House and telling the nation that he did not have sex with "that woman." Actually, given Stone's braggadocio about his ties to the old machine and Fred Roti, President Clinton was more credible when he claimed not to have had sex with that woman.
Berny, you may have protected yourself from the city's Inspector General, but you can't hide from Patrick Fitzgerald or the feds. You have much to account for before you can even think about getting your "good reputation" back. Trying to argue over what the meaning of "is" is won't help.

Well perhaps Bernie will be indicted soon and resign. Then we will elect Naisy Dolar in a special election as our Alderman. In the meantime let's all vote for Ron Paul in the Republican primary on Tuesday. He is bringing NEW HOPE TO AMERICA!
I am voting for Ron Paul, so is my spouse.
Berny's goin' down in flames since he couldn't take the hint that his heyday has long passed.
I voted for Dolar.
I will vote for Schakowsky.

I am voting for Ron Paul...
who cares if you vote for a cult leader? really?
why not stay home for all the good it will do you...
Anon-3:28=Ron Paul is not a cult leader. He is fighting for a better America. I didn't stay home. I voted early for him. We are called to be faithful not successful and at some point those with vision will be rewarded for their steadfastness for the righteous cause Dr. Paul is leading. They laughed at Barry Goldwater in '64, but 16 years later Ronald Reagan, carrying Goldwater's legacy, won the presidency!

Its going to be McCain and Clinton/Obama. Who the heck is Ron Paul and who cares.
I liked to say the following to the Ron Paul detractors-
1) This is a fight about saving our country and restoring authentic conservative values in the tradition of Alexander Hamilton, John Calhoun, Robert Taft, or Russell Kirk to the political process. Ron Paul embodies that crusade and yes Senator McCain may well secure the Republican nomination but the fight goes beyond this year and Dr. Paul could very well launch a
3rd party bid.
2-I'm glad the latest poster is focusing nationally. We are in a critical election on par with those in 1960, '48, 1932, and 1912 for instance and we have folks in the 50th ward worried more on which two Democratic hacks, Mr. Stone and Mr. Silverstein, should emerge with the meaningless position of Ward Committeeman tomorrow. I'm still shocked that while my mailbox has been clogged with brochures for Stone, Silverstein, Suffredin, Berrios, Greiman and Deranty, all for local offices, not one postcard for any of the presidential candidates has been delivered to my residence in Northern Boundary!
3-As for those who ask "Who cares about Ron Paul" if you care about upholding our Constitution, something the Bush Administration has done a good job of trampling on, if you believe in a reasonable immigration policy,if you can't understand why the Chilean wines sold at the Jewel on Howard Street are cheaper than California bottles thanks to the treachery of NAFTA, if you want an end to immoral overseas entanglements like Iraq, and if you are tired of neo-con pseudo-intellectuals like the Kristols and Ledeens formulating American policies you would not only care about Ron Paul you'd run out to his Lincoln Avenue headquarters to offer your unshakeable support to the movement he is leading!
