Ira Wins! Ira Wins!

It's a great day in the neighborhood. A man of integrity, spirit and a man who will not embarrass us has won election as Democratic Committeeman for the 50th Ward.

DEM - Ward Committeeman, 50th
37 out of 45 precincts (82.22 %)

Ira I. Silverstein 4,799 67.79 %
Bernard L. Stone 2,280 32.21 %

Ald. Stone's criminal organization, the Democratic Club of the 50th Ward, will no dount disappear. I think it safe to anticipate the return of the Regular Democratic Organization, the Democrats that Stone dissolved, to return to the 50th Ward.

It's a great day to be a democrat, to be alive in the 50th. If Stone resigns, his daughter is no longer the most likely replacement. And it's probable that Stone will not run for re-election as alderman. It's a GREAT DAY!

Let the race for 2011 begin!

What are the odds that Stone will retire before his term expires? For that matter, what are the odds that Stone will retire before HE expires? Slim to none. Did he step aside as committeeman when everyone (including the mayor) said he should? Did he give up his honorary vice-mayor title (and real payroll) when the mayor asked. Barring unforeseen circumstances (health and/or indictments) Stone is in office for the duration.

Hopefully, Bernie's finally gotten the message that he shouldn't think about running again. He won't have the mayor's support or troops. He won't have the committeeman's support. And he won't have his bagman/ward superintendent handling Devon Ave. fundraising and absentee ballots. It would be tough going.

As someone else said, Arizona should be looking mighty nice about now. But if he won't retire to Winslow, at least he can go back to sleeping in council meetings without worrying about how it might look on a campaign mailer. Sweet dreams, Bernie.

Bernard Stone should retire. It is time for Naisy to come forward and be annointed as our Alderman. For myself I'm glad I voted in the clean Republican primary and while Ron Paul didn't win any delegates , John McCain will be a breath of fresh air when he wins in November.

Mr. Stone should realize that if he doesn't exit gracefully he and his rump of supporters will forever be marginalized in the annals of Chicago history. As Oliver Cromwell said to the Long Parliament in 1653, "from where I stand I see there is nothing to be gained in your continued sitting here. Be thee gone sir!"

Wow! You guys really showed Schakowsky who's boss yesterday! She's quaking in her boots, now! She got your message loud & clear!

And Ira! You TRIED to WARN him he would lose his Senate seat if he ran for committeeman! Look at him now! You showed him!

Let's wait for Stone to retire.
Let's wait for Ron Paul to be elected President.

When we have all come back from fantasyland, let's realize we have an inept government from alderman to governor to president...

How are we going to change it?

I am thinking Obama might be a start...then when Stone either expires or its 2011--we can support whomever takes up the mantra for change here in the 50th ward.

What did I do on election day? Since I voted early, I avoided lines at the polls, took the day off to see my son's "Siddur" presentation at Hillel Torah, and assured a Ron Paul volunteer that I had voted for him already.

Jay, by the way, is no Cyber Bully. He is a great American patriot and a muckracker in the tradition of Teddy Roosevelt's Bull Moose movement.

For those who want 3 more years of Stone, I ask 3 more years of what? Patronage, corruption, disenfranchisement? Balkanized politics? Isn't it enough? Let Bernie find a good retirement home and we in the 50th ward will all be the better for it.

HA HA HA HA HA!

here's an interesting question to ponder:

During Stone's campaign for alderman he boasted on his close relationship with Daley, and derided his opponents running as reformers, saying they would harm the ward by opposing Daley on everything.

So now that Stone & Daley are feuding, will Stone resign for the benefit of the 50th ward?

just wondering...

"Naisy Dolar 9th congressional alternate delegate (Obama) with 59,893 [sic] votes [...] I guess somebody heard of this lady..."

Don't kid yourself. The choice was between a Clinton alternate and an Obama alternate. Those votes were for Obama, not Dolar.

Katie L. Remer (Clinton) 18,550 - 37.15%
Naisy Dolar (Obama) 31,381 - 62.85%
Total 49,931

Perhaps Bernie "nothing left to lose" Stone will now become a great independent on the city council:

Realty transfer tax hike gives seniors a break
February 7, 2008
BY FRAN SPIELMAN City Hall Reporter

Chicago aldermen Wednesday swallowed the bitter pill forced down their throats by the General Assembly to keep CTA buses and trains rolling. But not before lambasting lawmakers and throwing a bone to veterans and senior citizens. [...] But it wasn’t unanimous. The vote was 41-6 — and the six "no" votes had the mayor seething. They were cast by Aldermen Robert Fioretti (2nd), Sandi Jackson (7th), Sharon Denise Dixon (24th), Rey Colon (35th), Brian Doherty (41st) and Bernard Stone (50th). [...] Stone had nothing more to lose the morning after being unseated as 50th Ward Democratic committeeman by a Daley-backed challenger. Stone referred to his colleagues as "jellyfish" and urged them to defy Springfield and not "succumb to their crap."

So you say
"Stone gets what he wants!!"
I guess you have to be a Senator and a new Ward Committeeman like Ira Silverstein to get your street plowed from curb to curb down to the pavement. What a great deal. Is this fair to the rest of the Community??
I don't think so!!!!
Nothing like abusing your power to get what you want. I think I should also mention how he has in the past parked his car in a handicap space across the street from his house and left it there over shabos. What a Disgrace!!!

You can't miss the plate Senate 8

I have left God out of my life. That's rather ridiculous. I will pray for all of you Stoners, who have allowed our ward to be balkanized and led by a corrupt leader whose supporters turn around and invalidate anyone who doesn't like St. Bernard.

By the way the current edition of the "American Conservative" endorsed Ron Paul, which validates that I made the right decision in voting for him on Tuesday.

I totally agree with the last comment. God has no place in the comment section but I can't imagine He is too happy with the behavior of either Alderman Stone or Senator Silverstein.

Naisy to the Council Seat.
Ron Paul will be proven right someday as Barry Goldwater was.
