Done Deal: Naisy Will Withdraw in Run-off

Several of Ald. Stone's precinct captains are taking the extraordinary step of encouraging voters who cannot support Stone to vote for Naisy Dolar over Greg Brewer. Naisy, they say, is a product of the machine and will withdraw from the race if she and Stone go into a run-off.

"It's a Done Deal."

This seems absurd on its face. Naisy Dolar has run a highly competitive race. But Dolar herself touts the fact that she is connected to the machine. Rumors of her connections to the Hispanic Democratic Organization (HDO of Robert Sorich fame) and Mary Jo Falcon have abounded throughout the ward and web. Her campaign sees her connection to the machine as one its main assets.

The machine has used plant candidates successfully throughout Chicago. In 2006, a machine plant won secondly place over the so-called reform candidate in the Third Congressional District on the southside. Running someone who works on a government payroll, like Naisy did at the time she decided to run, to divide the opposition and dilute the vote against an incumbent is a time-honored tradition in Chicago.

Further, Berny Stone owes his re-election in 1991 to a deal brokered by then-State Senator (and Democratic Committeeman) Howard Carroll. A deal between Stone and Dolar would not be out of character.

But that is speculation. What is not is the fact that Stone precinct captains are encouraging people who cannot support Stone to support Naisy. Where Stone has precinct captains, they are far bigger presence than Naisy supporters in yellow hats.

One final observation: Naisy's supporters haven't been in the Jewish community south of Touhy until the last two weekends. That may suggest that they had conceded the Jewish vote until a deal was set. Greg Brewer supporters had been in Jewish precincts since September.

Regardless of whether Stone and Naisy have struck a deal, Stone's precinct captains are telling people who can't pull the lever for Stone to support Naisy. That tells us that Stone wants to face Naisy, not Brewer, if he has to go into a run-off. For whatever reasons, Brewer is the opponent Stone most fears.

Whether that is because Stone feels like he has a better chance against Naisy in a run-off or a deal has been struck, no one really knows. While it might have seemed unlikely that Naisy would withdraw in any case, her willingness to deceive voters gives us no confidence that she isn't doing so again.

I'm voting for Greg Brewer. We know for a fact that Brewer is not connected to the machine and offers the 50th Ward a truly independent voice. Berny Stone doesn't want me to vote for Greg Brewer. So if you'd like to see Stone defeated, you will vote for Greg, too.

Are you sure that Naisy/yellow hats have been in the Jewish precincts? We haven't seen them. We haven't seen any sign of Naisy, except in our mailbox. Everyone I've talked to says that the choice is between Berny and Brewer. Naisy is only out for the Asians, and they don't vote!

JS Brewer is now owned by the unions. Aside from the loans he gave to his campaign all of his funding comes from AFSCME, Carpenters etc.

Hello unions, Aldemn dont negotiate labor contracts, they just vote on them after the mayor office negtiate them and the union has already ratified the contracts.

A living wage... Hello unions why not try to raise the living wage that all business who have contracts with the city must pay which is $10 an hour.. Hello unions Bernard Stone is the one who sponsored that law way back.

So if Mr Brewer did fianance his campaign through a home equity loan and when he does not win, I hope he can pay it off. Otherwise I might be willing to buy his house.

JS by the way IBEW 134 and Plumbers Local 130support stone because they know there is not a better Alderman to the unions and know more about the Building Code in this city.

Finally after Tuesday night when this race is over, it will be time to address healing the rift caused by the gargbage thrown out by these campaigns and address some of the slander that has appeared on internet posting( hello Hugh?)

Mr. brewer might want to do a "card check" and see how many of these union leaders, business agents, union stewards and members have Sams Club Cards in their wallets or shop at Walmart. You be surprise what you would find. Or stake out the Sams Club in Evanston Or Walmart on Touhy in Niles.( sound like a job for Hugh)

Did you guys hear about the yellow roses Naisy's husband delivered to the Brewer campaign this weekend? The photo's are hilarious, especially the guy at Brewer's desk wearing a pro-Stone "Age equals wisdom hat"

Naisy's "machine" city position that you have become so fascinated about is her position at the Chicago Commission on Human Relations. It is in this position that she successfully forced Bernie Stone to remove illegal, 24-hour parking meters along Devon Ave.

What evidence do you have that Dolar is machine-related? Simply because she worked for the city? Her work while at the CCHR sure doesn't sound machine-like, and unless there's other info, I have no reason to believe your accusations.

Js, is this the last chapter of your ongoing story book? I'm just amazed by your creativity!

Where do you come up with these things?

Let me guess... your dad told you.

Hey, Naisy needs a job. I'm not surprised she'd cut a deal with da Mayor's office.

Why are you censoring posts?

Are you sure Dolar struck a deal with Stone??

BREWER DID!

Their CFL field director was sporting Stone's cap, spreading Stone's message!!!!!!

brewer is supporting stone? yeah, right.

greg brewer has NO ties to the machine. naisy is proud of her ties to the machine -- she even sent us flowers to thank us for repeating her ties to the machine!

jonas did get a hat from a couple of stone's thugs saturday. stone (like ben, naisy's husband, and eric, naisy's field director) has tried to intimidate our campaign's volunteers and staff. wearing stone's hat was a badge of honor that *we* are standing up against the machine.

i don't know if naisy is going to withdraw or not. doesn't matter, since she's coming in third. that's what the metrics say. but to suggest that greg has ties to the machine is so absurd, it shows desperation.

i understand *why* you are desperate. like i said, i have the metrics. but there's no honor in casting aspersions on other candidates, just because they are beating you. the brewer campaign is trying to campaign with a little class. greg brewer has the leadership that chicago can be proud of!

Why would Naisy do something like that? That's bad.

I'm not censoring, but I don't allow posts that use full names or that I know to be untrue.

JS you are censoring, as long your truth is the only message allowed. Your truth speaks loud and clear to the brewer camp's desperation. I am sure Greg is glad he only took a leave of absense from his job. Maybe he could work in Irv's loan department, he sure knows how to give loans.

Re: Censoring

Sorry, this blog is not part of the MSM, so JS doesn't have to "balance" fact with fiction.

Naisy Dolar is proud of her EXPERIENCE.

Greg is nothing but an architect who took out loans to pay his professional staff.

So let me get this straight - you 1) accepted the hat in the first place - why we won't speculate on here; and 2)wear the hat to show that you're standing up to the machine...which prospective voters who walked into the campaign office would no doubt pick up on immediately, correct?

And if that's a so-called badge of honor pray tell - what do you do when you're knuckling under to the threats and intimidation of the alderman?

Separately, under the heading of informing the voters how have you been intimidated by Naisy and her staff?

This trash is why i may choose not to vote tommorow.

None of these candidates is sincere nor do they represent the entire 50th ward.

Oh my gosh, that ugly hat "age equals wisdom" is hilarious! It looks like one of those trendy trucker hats, but comes off like an old guy hat. It's from Stone's campaign? Why would Stone think that having those made is a good idea? And, more importantly, where can I get one, lol?

I bet that guy who is wearing the hat thinks it's as funny as I do.

JS, I'm, sorry but this is truly tin hat/CIA conspiracy/alien abduction time in terms of your last post.

Ms. Dolar is a voraciously ambitious little woman. Her ambition is only exceeded by her naivete with regard to public policy.

Her Dolaristas were out last weekend going up to homes (North of Touhy)which had Daley/Stone signs on their lawns and trying to persuade the occupants that Berny was a doddering old fool and that his evil daughter was poised for a nespotic rise to power -- as per Lisa Madigan or Todd Stroger.

Aside from this showing the political ineptitude of Dolar's campaign, if she had cut a deal with Berny would her people be doing that?

If that is the stuff of which alliances are made, God save the Democrats in the 50th Ward.

You can't just throw out vague unsubstantiated maunderings like the ones in today's post.

If this were a serious blog -- the one that campaign managers watch -- it would be putting forth its prognostications as per turnout and result.

My gut tells me that turnout will be around 9,000 and that Stone will prevail with about 48 to 50.1 percent. (Turnout determining whether he's home free or faces a runoff.)

I suspect Brewer will come in second.

I have actually managed campaigns before on a much larger scale than this and have the intellectual honesty to be able to say that, absent polling data, this is just a stab in the dark and I can't go much further than this.

But I am curious as to why, if Brewer has positive polling data as he hinted on his website, he didn't release it or portions of it when he spoke to the CST yesterday.

Further, if any of these other bloggers are even vaguely serious people, on this last day, they'll put aside their bloviating and spin-meistering and join me in making concrete predictions.

That challenge includes the host.

I guess we will find out soon enough, but I also find this theory pretty ridiculous. I was all over the Ward working for Brewer today (2/27) and have to say that all my encounters with Naisy's volunteers were friendly and pleasant. If the volunteers are a reflection of the candidate, this bodes very well for Naisy and for her chances in the runoff.
