So When Does Stone Debate Dolar?
Ald. Stone used the spector of four challengers as an excuse for ducking earlier debates. So the question is, when will Stone debate Naisy?
It should be apparent to all that Stone didn't want to sit there with his critics. But his offer to debate his challengers "one on one" offers no excuses. Will Stone debate? Probably not. It's not just that he is scared of talking about his record of neglect and favors. It's not just that Stone doesn't like to be questioned. It's that Stone is getting old. He no longer has the mental facilities that he used to. He's scared.
In a debate, one on one or otherwise, Stone has no where to run. His outrageous comments, those things that embarrass all of us, can be responded to, called for what they are.
Will Stone debate? Probably not. But if he doesn't, we will all know why.
He's a loser. He's vulnerable. Half the voters don't want him around anymore.

Stone is a winner and will be on 4/17. Stone will be able to draw just as many votes n 4/17 then he did on 2/27. Naisy is broke and I will be surprised if AFSCME, CFL or any other union throws more money down the drain after your canidate who will need a second job to pay for his loans.
Bottom Line the 26% that Brewer and Aftab drew will not go to Naisy so all Stone's veteran captains need to do is repeat yesterday turn out for victory on 4/17.
Js maybe it also time you shut down this blogg as you have no love loss for Naisy and go get a real job.
You might be surprised to learn that I have no love for Berny, either.
If I vote this April, it may be for Stone. It may be for Dolar. Or I may not vote at all. I haven't decided.
But even if Stone wins, I probably won't shut down this blog. It's time for someone to speak truth to power in the 50th. Berny Stone has very few friends (including among the Jewish residents) left. Mostly, he is just an embarrassment. His time is over.
One more thing: interesting that the commenter above didn't speculate when or if Stone will debate Dolar. Wonder why?

It is admirable of you to keep this blog alive in the wake of the defeat of your -- not too transparent -- favorite's defeat.
Obvious also that you are a product of the public school system in that you spelled spectre (as in ghost) as spector (as in the inventor of the pop music 'wall of sound.')
If you don't mind, I would like to gloat for just a bit.
Unlike many of the bloviators on your blog, I dealt in serious political analysis.
I predicted that Aftab would get around 500 votes.
He Got 538.
I predicted that Berny would get between 48% and 50.1%
He got 48.9%
I predicted Brewer would come in 2nd.
I was wrong.
That having been said, Stone would be an idiot to not debate Dolar.
Have you seen her in person?
She comes off like a shrieking little shrew. Her grasp of serious matters of public polity is such that she reminds one of a somewhat intellectually challenged high school sophomore.
Anyone who doubts this should just look at the Chicago Tribune on-line feed of their endorsement session.
She didn't seem capable of discerning a TIF from a sniff.
It would be perhaps kindest to say that the little woman lacks a certain "gravitas."
Stone by comparison, despite a certain gruffness to his accent (well he was, after all a product of the Chicago Public schools) comes off like a wizened legislator.
Don't believe me? -- just look at it.
Stone could only gain by debating her, but the question is how much?
Who would air such a debate -- public access cable?
And how many people who were not already partisan would come to watch such an event. I think few.
Dolar's vulnerabilities lie in the fact that she has taken left-wing social positions (abortion on demand/homosexual marriage/ uncontrolled illegal immigration) and her socially conservative ethnic base is not yet aware of them yet.
Stone will surely exploit this.
Daisy should just be grateful that the relatively liberal Roman Catholic priests in this area will likely not excommunicate her as Cardinal Ratzinger (now Pope Benedict) recommended that they should (as per abortion and homosexual marriage afficianados in public life.)
Look for it to become an issue, though.
"Naisy is broke and I will be surprised if AFSCME, CFL or any other union throws more money down the drain after your canidate who will need a second job to pay for his loans."
Wake up, the unions were saving the money for when the playing field cleared, as it now has. Expect them to throw their full weight into this run-off.
"She comes off like a shrieking little shrew."
Umm, not in this clip of her speech at her victory party last night.
"Stone by comparison, despite a certain gruffness to his accent (well he was, after all a product of the Chicago Public schools) comes off like a wizened legislator."
I'd actually say he sounds more like Grandpa Simpson, and just as grumpy.
I would love to see Stone debate Dolar, Stone would likely get pissed off and flip out on her, and the whole audience would see his worst side.
politwriter, how can you brag about your predictions when you were SO wrong and your "serious political analysis? I'm LMAO.
And then you have the gall to spout your sexist drivel??????
Either you're a really really sore loser or you're on the Stone man's payroll, and trying on a very clever disguise.
politwriter, i bow to your private school/Ivy League education, Mayflower heritage, and political acumen.
please inform us how city council members can pass ordinances that can end abortion, outlaw homosexual marriage, and increase border security.
thank you.
Jay,
I'm very disappointed by your attitude toward the runoff election. I believe Greg Brewer's campaign manager got it exactly right in the message he sent to Brewer supporters last night:
I congratulated Naisy and her campaign manager today. The banner of change continues to be carried by Naisy and her campaign. I hope that all of Greg's supporters will choose to support Naisy in whatever way they feel appropriate.
I know that hard feelings can emerge after a campaign like this one. I ask that you set them aside for now. There is nothing that helps Bernie Stone more than for resentments to persist between challengers' supporters. Stone is still the target here. As Greg has said from Day One, this is all about beating Bernie Stone.
Many if not all of you will be contacted by Naisy's campaign (probably repeatedly). They know you have supported Greg. I'm asking that you support her now. Four more years of Bernie Stone is four years too many...

I AM PUTTING THIS IN CAPS SO IT STAND OUT BUT I AM NOT CAPS MAN.
SEIU has not made a decision whether they will thrown support or money at Naisy. They see the 48.5% of the vote Stone got and see that as next to impossible to beat.
One of their own Union Business Agents ( Leroy Jones) is running in a run off in the 21 ward nd they may thrown all of their efforts in that race.
I can say for the CFL but they may also see the same impossible fight to win.
"Wake up, the unions were saving the money for when the playing field cleared, as it now has. Expect them to throw their full weight into this run-off."
The CFL has already moved their 50th ward field director to the 49th. Dolar is on her own, and good riddance. She'll be lucky if she can keep her 2800 votes.
Hey, Berny! WHEN'S THE DEBATE???
Stone gave $250 to Sorich
February 7, 2007
By LORRAINE SWANSON News-Star Staff Writer
...Stone has been sitting out the 50th Ward aldermanic forums because he said he has no desire to be a "punching bag" for the other three candidates who are vying for the 34-year incumbent's seat on the City Council.
"Why should I give them notoriety that they don't deserve?" Stone said....
Stone also said he was unable to come to an agreement on the format for a Feb. 7 forum that is being hosted by the West Rogers Park Community Organization at Boone School.
"We negotiated over a period of one month with respect to the rules of the forum. I offered time and time again to meet each of the candidates in a separate forum and debate them one on one, but it was rejected," Stone said.
"(The challengers) want to gang up on me three against one. The only place we went three against one was at the (Chicago) Tribune editorial board and I held my own before a professional audience, more than what could have happened before non-professionals," he added.

what BS
Brookins got 47% to Jones' 34% in the 21st you jerk
Hugh,
I wont call respond to your a jerk comment since your post speak for themselves but SEIU has no love for Naisy and labor is embarressed by Brewer 3rd place finish.
Leroy Jones works for SEIU Local 73, Ever look at CAN-TV channel 19/21. Leroy can be seen on Tuesday Nights at 7PM sometimes on SEIU says.
Oh CAN TV-- that was saved by Alderman Stone actions.
word aroung is that aftab disappeared overnight he disc. cell phone and closed office. thursday morning volunteers were there to collect there money he was no were to be found, office was empty and now there going to make a police report. wow lol what a loser
"The CFL has already moved their 50th ward field director to the 49th. Dolar is on her own, and good riddance."
You mean, the 50th ward field director who got a distant 3rd place and who was beaten by Dolar's field team the first time around? Good riddance to *him*, he couldn't organize a sock drawer. I don't think Dolar will be hurting without him.
I asked one of the SEIU reps at Naisy Dolar's post-election party if SEIU was going to back Naisy if she forces a run-off.
His response: "Oh, hell yeah!"
Why would labor support Naisy against Stone even in a tough race? Hm...to send not just him but other aldermen the message about perceived "invulnerability" and that they shouldn't go against labor. Pushing a close run-off election against a 34 year incumbet and vice mayor will scare other aldermen who might think of going against labor in the future--it's a win-win situation because even if they lose, they still win. Stone has been targeted by labor for a long time. They hate him...and rightly so. On top of his voting record, he refers to us as those "labor bastards."
The likelihood of her beating Stone isn't great, but it's greater than the likelihood of her running a grassroots campaign and decisively beating a hand-picked and decently funded candidate supported by CFL, AFSCME, Carpenter's etc. The 50th is proving to be a ward where anything can happen.
Regardless of whether or not Greg Brewer's volunteers will back her, though everyone knows they should, the ward is sharply segregatred by pro-Stone and ABS (anyone but Stone) voters, and anyone who's polled the ward knows there are far more ABS voters. A good number of voters, particularly the long-time residents and seniors, were discouraged because they didn't believe anyone could unseat Stone. Run offs aren't always kind to the incumbent. His "inlvulnerable" armor has been pierced, his achille's heel exposed, he's scared, the weather is getting warmer...it's a different ball game.

Well I talked to the SEIU Officer ( not rep) who handled this matter and the response as of yesterday was we have not made any decision.
Remember the labor canidate was Brewer and not Dolar. Stone got more union endorsements than Dolar on 2/27.
A repeat of Stone support on 4/17 that he got on 2/27 will equal 50% plus one.
Stone: SEIU "Phony SOBs"
Union fine-tuning target list of aldermen it wants out
BY MARK BROWN, Sun-Times Columnist, November 28, 2006
... With 78,000 members in the city, the union thinks it could be a difference maker ...
Stone, for one, says "those phony SOBs" at SEIU won't hinder his re-election bid. He expects most labor unions involved in the building trades to continue to support him as they have in the past.
If all Brewer and Aftab voters move to Naisy, she wins 52% to 48%. If 10% of Stones voters sense his vulnerability, Dolar wins easily. Better weather in weeks leading up to election only enhances Dolar's formidable ground game. This Dog fight has a few more rounds to go.
There will be a bebate im sure, and dolar will be put to shame. She doesnt know how to speak.
"We negotiated over a period of one month with respect to the rules of the forum. I offered time and time again to meet each of the candidates in a separate forum and debate them one on one, but it was rejected," Stone said.
What is a bebate? Please put your glasses on before you post gibberish. You can preview your post before you publish, this may make your statements more relevant and not just fly out of your mouth like Stone does.
Its called a TYPO look it up !!
stone will debate.. you'll see.
