What Does Stone's Loss Mean?

Ald. Stone and his supporters repeatedly predicted that Stone would win outright on Tuesday. He brought in machine workers from other wards and spent prolificly on workers from Skokie and Chicago. He brought in the Mayor repeatedly. He leveled ridiculous charges of anti-Semitism and probably sent himself hate mail.

And still he couldn't win.

Berny Stone has created two myths around himself that has helped him stay in power. The first was that he was much beloved. The second was that he was invulnerable. Both myths are now pierced.

Stone refused to run on his record, even though these elections are always about the incumbent. And underneath this is the issue of Stone's health. All Stone's campaign literature made the alderman look drawn and pale. Rumors that Stone spends significant time in local hospitals still persist, although he's said to have moved locations. Other rumors, and that's all these are, say that local nurses have been asked to be on the lookout for Stone and Ilana.

The question we can never answer is whether Stone will actually last another four years.

Stone himself, by sending out literature that makes him appear ill, has made health a key issue in this race. And the spectre of Ilana hangs thick like fog over the next fourty-odd days. No matter what Stone says, Ilana is an issue, both because he has named her as his desired successor AND the fact that his health is suspect.

For the first time, perhaps in the last 20 years, voters in the ward will think seriously about who will replace Ald. Stone. The choice is between two women: Ilana or Naisy. One of them is needs no introduction to the 50th Ward, whether it's her piercings, her biker gang, or her history of partying.

Naisy will do well to introduce herself to the rest of the ward. Ilana is a formidible and nasty opponent.

While I agree with your post, I also think that Stone got as many votes as he did by paying people to vote for him. I worked this election and lets just say some of it was not quite kosher. He got a white Cadillac Escalade from Gateway Chevrolet, and ran his paid for votes to their local polling place. Lets not forget the 16 year old Aftab gal that Stones crony got arrested over for verbal sexual assault.

i wonder what stunts Stone will pull in the next 6-7 weeks. It'll be interesting.

I poll-watched and we were visited by the white Escalade. The precinct captain used the polling place cones to save space at the curb for it right in front.

I wonder what kind of false allegations or charges that Dolar campaign will come up with overthe next 6 weeks. I wonder what she will blame on Stone as well. I wonder what precinct Hugh was in so we can see what wonderfull totals he got for his canidate who was?

By the way the cone is for 100 feet from the enterance to the building where polling place is located. Not 100 feet from the enterance to the room in the building where the polling place is located Hello Nolar pollwatcher who was at 6833 N. Kedzie.

Hey anon @ 6:44,

Have you read the Election Manual lately? Electioneering is permitted 100 ft from the entrance to the the room where the voting occurs, commonly known as the polling place,

So, the Dolar pollwatcher @ 6833 N. Kedzie must have read the manual, and you would be well advised to do so before April 17. You may learn the rules and regulations for fair elections.

"instruct voters inside the polling place or within 100 feet to the door to the room serving as the polling place."

My mistake but handing out flyers all day at polling places does not win an election. In addition the elevators are not 100 feet from the polling place door.

So on 4/17 it will be mark off with a fine tooth comb.

One more thing about fair elections, So it look like on Dolar Election Day Blog that it is fine for her supports to great or shout at Stone but when one of Stone's supports does that it is to Dolar or her supports it is intimdation.

Also Stone workers pick up their signes did your supports do that?

Stone workers did their work before the elections, did you?

Last but no least I have been doing fair elections long before Dolar lived in the ward which was when again?

This election is about Stone & Dolar. I dont know why this person has a hard on for Ilana, seems personel to me. I believe Stone has more experience for the job than dolar. Lets stick to the issues of servicing our ward and keep the rest off this blog.

Stone made Ilana an issue when he voiced his interest in seeing her replace him. That is an issue, one worth serious consideration from all the voters of the 50th Ward.

Out of curiousity, what "issues" has Stone addressed? Seems to me that he has done everything but discuss issues. That goes for his supporters, as well.

Anon @ 12:09 pm,

I am not part of Dolar's campaign so I cannot answer your questions.

If you want the signs picked up, why not call the Dolar office? It's part of creating a clean and well-kempt ward.

I know that the alderman has a difficult time ensuring a clean ward, so help him out. Maybe you can call the ward office and they can help by removing signs.

Your long experience conducting fair elections in the ward is downright admirable. But, as a Brewer pollwatcher in this election, I learned a few things or two about Mr. Stone's "supports" or supporters. They have learned to abide by their own rules and not the rules as stated by the Board of Elections.

I understand that one pollwatcher was told by a Stone "support" Election Judge that they could not perform their civic duty because the pollwatcher needed a voter registration card. Whaaaaaa??????

I am thankful that Greg Brewer had the foresight to have an Election Protection Team (no, not the usual thugs as we know in Chicago) of astute attorneys. They were plenty busy on Election Day!

So, your long experience just doesn't match up to my short stint. But, my Election Day experience here (and the experience of many others) did not meet a test of fair elections being a common practice around the 50th ward.

Interview with Stone:
With 50th Ward alderman Bernard Stone running for reelection at age 79, some skeptics have been SPECULATING that he's simply hoping to keep his seat warm until the time is right to deliver it to his chief of staff and daughter, Ilana Feketitsch. I asked him if he was going to be next to uphold local tradition a la Burke, Lipinski, Stroger, and now Steele and Beavers. "It ain't gonna be me," he said.

Any parent would hope their child could follow in their footsteps. I know my father wanted me to take over the family business. Is there something wrong with that??? It doesnt mean he will hand it to her. She will have to run her own campaign. AGAIN PEOPLE ARE SPECULATING

A good aldermanic canidate pick up their signs, Stone did.

Second Lawyers in the polls as watchers big deal.. The judges still hsve the final say.

I believe it was about 12 years ago a Cook County State attorney was giving election judges trouble in a precinct. The lawyer kept telling the judges you cantdo this or you must do it this way. The judges had the police officer throw out the State's Attorney. In the end the judges were right and the lawyer was not.

The same with poll watchers who cant carry votes for their canidates start trouble to try and disrupt voting. ( Hank Rubin, 1995 and 2003 the Morris Guy) I get my work done before election day so I wont have any issues. The judges tell the jail house lawyer poll watchers to behave or out they will go.

No. After 2 1/2 years into the 4 year term (fall 2009), Mayor Daley will APPOINT a replacement.

Or thats the word you put out to get people to vote against Stone.
Thats just like Willow who hates Ilana. She uses this blog for her personal issues.Lets stick to the issues at hand, service the community. I believe I have gotten service as well as others.

I will SPECULATE here:

IF Stone does win (and I think it's doubtful) he will try to serve 2+ years and then, since he is not too healthy, retire in Arizona. Before he leaves office he will strongly recommend to Da Mare that his daughter be appointed to his still warm seat, since she has so much "experience".
It's questionable as to whether Daley will actually do this. The 50th ward residents will be outraged (most of them), but Stone won't be held accountable since he'll be in Arizona, retiring. It's now or never for the 50th ward, vote in Naisy to get "the old machine hack and daughter specter" out or continue on with the "same ole same ole" BS. Bad service of course.

WILLOW SAID IT ILANA DOES HAVE THE EXPERIENCE SINCE SHE HAS BEEN RUNNING THE NORTH SIDE OFFICE FOR 12 YEARS AND MAY I SAT HAS DONE A DAMM GOOD JOB AT IT. YOU CANT PLEASE ALL PEOPLE. I STILL DONT BELIEVE STONE WILL GIVE UP HIS SEAT THAT EASY, HE ENJOYS HELPING PEOPLE TOO MUCH. THATS HIS LIFE.AGAIN WILLOW/WENDY FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND IS USING THE BLOG AS A PERSONAL VENDETA AGAINST HER NEIGHBOR ILANA.GET OVER IT. THIS IS A ELECTION NOT YOUR PERSONAL BLOG. YOU KNOW FO A FACT THAT THIS WARD HAS NOT AGAIN I SAY HAS NOT GOTTEN BAD SERVICE. YOU HAVE GOTTEN ALL YOU HAVE ASKED FOR AND MORE. AGAIN THIS IS A PERSONEL ISSUE FOR YOU AND YOUR USING THE ELECTION TO VENT.

I think your totally off base and again using this as a personal vendeta against your neighbor Ilana. You are rite about one thing Ilana's experience. She has 12 years in the ward and has done a damm good job. As far as service you cant complain you have got your fair share and then some.As fare as Stone I dont believe for a second he will give up his seat he LOVES his job too much and enjoys helping people. Thats been his life. He also has no desire to move to Arizona. Naisy couldnt fill his shoes nor can she make the changes she claims she can do.

To the two "anonymous" Stone-Feketitsch posters, I don't get the willow/wendy correlation so perhaps you would like to explain. Why does willow/wendy hate ilana? Please explain. I'm betting you won't. Oh, and try spellcheck, or a dictionary for a change.

You seem to be using this blog to discuss Ilana, so why don't you start a blog of your own to do just that. Ilana can be the center of the blog and everyone can join in and blog and blog about her and all her "experience"(again I use q. marks) and her lunge to stardom in everyones favorite cameraphone snippet. That would be so much fun wouldn't it? 'Cause we can't get enough of Ilana, Ilana, Ilana, it's really ALL about her! Never mind that there is an election on April 17th and an alderman that can't seem to get the job done. Guess what? Many people are angry that the bike bridge wasn't built, especially since it was funded. Would you like to discuss Stones reasons why it wasn't or any other issues for that matter or would you like to discuss more of Ilana, and why she should be the center of this blog?
willow9 is waiting...
Oh, by the way, GO NAISY!!!

The only reason he removed others signs was to help stone win, he did this on election day with a city vehichle.

Seems to me Ilana is always in your posts whether you use her name or refer to her as the daughter. I have seen many posts on all blogs bashing Stone and his Family from you, which seems to be very personal. Time and time again you have stated a vote for Stone is a vote for Ilana. You keep bringing up Ilana when her father is running for office not her. You have stated Stone is old, you to will be old one day or may be old already. He may be old but wise, and is still capable of doing his job and does a good one at that. Just because someone is old doesn’t mean they can’t perform their duties. You speak about services being poor but never explain. Our streets get cleaned, trees trimmed upon request, garbage picked up etc. I see you complained about speed bumps in another blog. These are requested by people living on the block, and have to get a petition signed with the majority wanting it. Maybe you shouldn’t drive so fast and your car wouldn’t bottom out. That’s why speed bumps are put up. I don’t understand what you’re complaining about. This is BAD SERVICE?? Maybe you should do research on the bike path. It would have wound up in Lincoln Village parking lot in front of the Retirement home in traffic. I wouldn’t want my kids riding from a path into a parking lot with traffic. Maybe that’s why it wasn’t completed. Did you know this?? Did you know that further research is being done?? I bet you don’t even ride a bike. Do your homework.. As Stone said in an interview he has unfinished business and the path is one of them. GO Bernie !!

I'm betting on Naisy now, if Stone had wanted it done believe me, it would have been done.

>in front of the Retirement home in traffic.

Ah yes, the Retirement Home, things are becoming much clearer now as I learn who and what has priority in the 50th.

> I bet you don’t even ride a bike.

You would lose.

GO away Bernie !!

if Stone had wanted it done believe me, it would have been done.

You also avoided the issues of service as you know you and all the residents of the 50th ward do get the services, the speed bumps you complained about. Its you not the speed bumps that are the problem. Look into your own backyard.Deal with your own issues. GET HELP!!

Hey 10 POINTS for Anonymous who stumped Willow9 making the statement:

That goes to show people that in fact Stone gets things done and all good things take time.

LOL!!!
Willow9 GREAT statement. Thanks

Jay, Stone never said that, in case you have never heard him on t.v., in person, or otherwise. I have heard him speak before, and as far as I have heard, he always says you retire out when you die out. Remember that. And being in office for 12 years would perfectly qualify Ilana to be alderman anyway, and Im sure enough people would feel that way to vote for her, maybe not Wendy aka willow9, but she's only one vote in her house anyway, so who cares.
