Week in Review

I missed some things I wanted to post on because I was stunned by the lack of integrity of one candidate. This week we saw:

  • A Mailer from Ald. Stone
  • Two Mailers from Greg Brewer
  • DL21C Endorsement of Naisy Dolar
  • A Billboard goes up for Greg Brewer
  • Year-end D2s are filed
  • Another debate between 50th Ward candidates on Saturday

The campaign is getting hot. I was surprised to receive the first set of mailers. In January, no less. We can expect more in the next 25 days. Some people may want to stop their mail! No, no. Don't do that.

The Stone mailer was straight off Stone's website. I wanted to look at its claims in an earlier post, but I got sidetracked by Marissa's attempted cover-up of Naisy's residency claims. I may come back to that later.

The letter (and brochure) from Brewer was great. Looked like it was actually signed. Or an expensive facsimilie. Very personal touch, very different from all those accusations that Stone's and Dolar's supporters throw out here. This is a serious, substantive man. And very positive. The Brewer campaign isn't negative like the others.

I am told by a friend that Brewer has a billboard up. I will try to get pictures of this later (hopefully, before Shabbat).

For those who are not observant, RPCAN hosts the next debate between 50th Ward candidates [PDF]. I'm hoping there will be a debate between the candidates at the JCC this month.

Its amazing-we not only live in an era of HISTORICAL REVISIONISM-BUT BIOGRAPHICAL REVISION--Naisy ,your RACIAL CRUSADE lacks integrity and TRANSPARENCY-BUT THATS OBVIOUS FROM YOUR COVERED UP CAMPAIGN OFFICE WINDOWS!!

I received the Brewer’s mailing he looked liked a little boy playing politician in the school play. He is clearly in over his head and has no idea what he is doing. I think we need a grown up to be our alderman not some one throwing a temper tantrum.

I'm being very honest, I would not have known who Greg Brewer is if not for this website, having passed by his office on my daily route, and just being so very interested in this race anyways.

I have not seen one Greg Brewer sign in my precint or neighboring ones, I have not had one Brewer voulunteer come by (sure I might not be home), but I have not had any of these mailers you speak of either though.

I have seen Stone and Aftab signs and not just Devon, but spanning a wide range in the ward, I have even seen isolated Dolar signs.

I guess some candidates don't really feel they need to focus on certain areas of the ward for votes. It makes the voter feel ostracized.

Does Greg Brewer not want my vote?

This is the only reason I have trouble making a decision. And just out of familiarity would just go vote for Stone as other candidates have neglected to campaign in this and neighboring precincts. At the least Aftab because I've personally seen more signs and seen him campaigning than any of the other candidates regardless of if he deserves it or not thats another story.

Sure yeah they have websites, and events, but how am I or any other common voter supposed to know of these people if they don't come or try to become visible

Who are the "community leaders" shown huddling around Stone in the photo on p. 2 of his mailer?

Thanks!

If this is the same debate with the 49th ward at the United Church, I'll cover it for you on YouTube and you can hijack it from me.

Maybe I can catch Bernie napping?

Greg's mailer did not impress me at all. There is no substance, no issues. He looks like a gangster in his picture on the front page. What message is he trying to give with a picture of Devon Bank CEO?

To anon 5:39 PM. Not sure how many were from the ward but you can rest assured it was more than would have shown for a Brewer event...LOL. Afterall she is not the one who is burdened by $85,000.00 in debt...LOL

I don't know what precinct the anonymous poster above lives in, but I was out walking one of mine for 4.5 hours today for Brewer as were other Brewer volunteers. I ran into 2 Dolar volunteers on my route: we wished each other well and I altered my sequence so I wouldn't be knocking on the same doors at the same time as them.

I think this speaks volumes of the dedication of the volunteers for these two candidates. Dorothy Brown spoke to my DFA group on Thursday and pointed out that there's a reason the machine schedules municipal elections in February. I'm glad to see that grassroots campaigns in the 50th aren't allowing themselves to be slowed down by the cold!

JS,Your site is going to wind up in the "non-relevance" to the media file.I am a Blog tracker for a major print /internet outlet.CENSORSHIP makes you non-credible

Not really interested in how the major print media views my blog here. This is a place where we can have a conversation about politics in the 50th, free of intimidation. I am more interested in protecting those residents who dare to speak out against the alderman, because both he and his office are extremely vindicative and not very tolerant of dissent.

In the 50th Ward, you either love Berny Stone OR ELSE! If that means that this is not credible to the major print media, then Peter Green said it best.

Here's some notes from our neighbor Toni Duncan on Saturday's candidate forum:

Hocus Pocus and The Mayor Isn't The Boss

Stone apparently a no-show once again.

You are free to dismiss this space because you do not share my passion for seeing Ald. Stone defeated. It does make me wonder why you would stop by, though.
